Inspired by the heart-shaped colocasia, I decided to paint my Valentine’s card to my valentine.
Masks for Good
My design contribution to doing good in the middle of a pandemic. https://www.gofundme.com/f/masks-for-good Together with our team, we raised $46,469 securing 20,000 masks when supply was short. We distributed thousands of masks to major hospitals in Seattle, New York, Chicago, and California. Posters were also placed around cities to help raise awareness of the campaign and encourage others to donate what they could.
My Rock Solid 5 Year Plan
As I reflected on the past 10 years (2010 — 2020), I took advantage of a long weekend and worked on goals for the next 5 years. I wrote a Personal Essay inspired by Debbie Millman I rightfully titled ‘My Rock-Solid 5 Year Plan' when it felts like a solid plan. The visual that came to mind as I was writing it was crystal formations that took thousands of years to form, each uniquely shaped just like each goal I set. I scanned them via a flatbed scanner and created a poster composition as a daily reminder. This is currently my screen saver.
12/2021 - Progress check: Accomplished 4 out of 10 Goals so far.
THIS. IS. STUNNING.
At the beginning of the pandemic when there was so much breaking news that was truly stunning and visceral my vision of Springtime celebrations and outdoor enjoyment faded. I wanted to use flowers as a way to juxtapose all the stunning news and create visuals that could also be considered stunning but messaged the statement differently, adding drama to the communication and forcing a stop with every word. Since spring is a time for renewal, I used the last post to convey an optimistic message in a time of uncertainty.
While working on Amazon Go, we wanted to find a way to recognize the hard work everyone working on the project was done by making it easy to recognize them. We all worked out of one building and shared one common kitchen space. My solution was to create a feature wall with medallions that were placed adjutant to the kitchen, making it easy for all who walk by to participate. As the team grew and moved buildings, versions of this feature were added to designated floors.
Get Out the Vote 2020
My contribution to AIGA’s Get Out The Vote Campaign in 2020. When the USPS was being defunded, I wanted to do my part in helping fund it by purchasing stamps and participating in public demonstrations. I then used the stamps to design a poster for AIGA’s Get Out The Vote Campaign, reminding voters what is at stake regardless of political views. The poster was requested for use by AIA New York for an event Enhancing Democracy: The Power of Design in Voting Spaces
